SUPPORT OF THE COMMUNITY AND BUSINESSES

It is the policy of the Salmon Festival to purchase goods or services locally and if possible, from a sponsor.  In 2011 we purchased $52,217.30 worth of goods and services from local businesses.

Salmon Festival hires or makes donation to community groups or individuals to assist us in delivering our programs and provide the community groups with much needed funds to carry out their charitable programs.  In 2011 we paid or donated $24,575.00 to the following for those services.

Search & Rescue

Mountainaire Avian Rescue

Timberline Football Team

C.R. Kinsmen

Local Entertainers

Local Workers

Kids Rides

Face painters

Head Injury Society

The Festival not only provides financial assistance to community groups, but it is our policy to provide our assets free and assist with the delivery and set-up of those items.  Last year the Salmon Festival assisted 35 community organizations through the use of our assets.  Each time we assist a community group they save rental, building or storage costs, allowing more funds to go toward their charitable endeavor.  The value of this support was $28,320.00.

 ECONOMIC IMPACT

The Salmon Festival knows that 1 in 5 spectators came from outside Campbell River, but we do not know how many came primarily for the Festival or were here for another purpose, then took in our show.  We know the impact generated from our spending and we know the restaurants do extremely well with the dinner time ending of the Parade and Logger Sports.  A conservative estimate would be $750,000.00.  This does not take into consideration the value of the Festival Television coverage outside Campbell River on CH, A-Channel, Shaw and TSN.  TSN is Canada wide and parts of the US.

SUPPORT FROM THE COMMUNITY

Our annual expenditures for 2011 were $277,630.80 and came from the following:

56% or $155,155.78 from donated cash and value of goods, services and labour

7% or $20,000.00 Grant-In-Aid from the City of Campbell River

12% or $33,496.62 Community Gaming Grant

10% or $28,320.00 was our community support value

The remaining 15% or $40,658.40 came from entry fees, registration, bars, food, etc.
