The prime industry of Northern Vancouver Island is the Forest Industry and

our major venue, the "North Island Logger Sports" (our heritage sport) depicts the

past and present logging practices through entertaining competitions between loggers

 

The following Logger Sports events were hosted by the Campbell River

Salmon Festival and are being aired on the TSN Television Network

2006 Canadian East West Logging Sports Challenge

  2007 STIHL Canadian Western Semi-finals

 

The Canadian East West Logging Sports Challenge is a competition between

Eastern Loggers (Ontario, Quebec and Maritimes) and Western Loggers

(Alberta and British Columbia) to determine the best in Canada

 

The STIHL Canadian Western Semi-finals is a competition to determine

the 7 Western loggers who will compete with 7 Eastern loggers in London Ontario.

to determine who will compete in the World Competition in Germany

The Campbell River Salmon Festival Society presents the 41st Annual Celebration known as the   "North Island Loggers Sports".   This annual Event offers merriment, entertainment and activities for everyone and the following is what you will get for the price of admission to the Park: Daily gate admission is $5 for 13 years and over, $3 for children 3-12 years old.  Children 2 years and under are free. 

The "North Island Loggers Sports" will take place from Friday, August 8th through to Sunday, August 10th at Nunn's Creek park on 16th Avenue (located behind the Ironwood Mall. Now called Campbell River Common). 

The excitement of  "Logger Sports" offers  2 1/2  action filled days of one of the largest sanctioned Logger Sport Competitions in Canada.  This years show will offer 1 World Championship and 7 Canadian Championships, 15 Canadian East / West Logging Sports Competitions along with 17 other Masters, Open, Intermediate, Novice, ladies Youth and Teen events.  International and local loggers will be competing for part of the $40,200.00 prize package. 

For the children and seniors, North Island Logger Sports provides special areas with events tailored for the enjoyment of all ages.  At the children's area, the young ones can enjoy a wide variety of stage FREE entertainment, rides and games.  At the other end of the spectrum, the seniors can play bingo or try their hand at cribbage and win fabulous prizes.

While taking in the many events offered at the Festival, stroll through the Arts and Crafts area, browsing through the unique gift ideas, check out what the local community groups and businesses in Campbell River have to offer at the Community Corner and Trade Show booths, enjoy a snack or a meal and support the non-profit organizations.
